It’s true, and the 2046 is the current right ‘Define Large File Size’ threshold max value for the N++ Scintilla syntax highlighting. Note: Now we could easily shift that back (but I don’t think it’s a good idea, as the enabled syntax highlighting and the assoc. stuff substantially slow down handling and double the memory consumption needed for such large files…) to the previous larger 4096 threshold, since in the meantime I finally persuaded Don and now the SC_DOCUMENTOPTION_TEXT_LARGE Scintilla docs flag is used as default everywhere (this effectively removes the previous crash possibility for a small increase in the consumed memory price). @Jean-Colin , Ubuntu is not an officially-supported OS for Notepad++. Many people get it to work on Ubuntu (through WINE or equivalent), but neither the Developers nor the regular users here in the Community make any warranty or guarantee. In theory, getting the translation should be the same on Ubuntu+WINE as it is on Windows: when you run the installer, you should be able to get the language. If you didn’t choose that language on install, I believe you can re-run the installer to ask for that language. Or, if that’s too annoying for you, download a portable edition, and unzip the translation(s) you need from the localization\ directory in the zipfile, and put it into Ubuntu-equivalent of C:\program files\Notepad++\localization . After restarting Notepad++ (so it can re-read its config files), then Settings > Preferences > General > Localization should show the additional language(s) that you put in that directory.

@scootergrisen , My guess is that Don won’t bother with that in the GitHub area (though you would have to ask him, not us, because we’re not Don and Don doesn’t read most of what happens in the Forum). I am pretty sure he created this “Translation” section of the Forum so that such interactions would occur here, in the “Translation” section of the Forum, rather than having a “perpetual issue” open in GitHub for discussing translation changes. Probably the best you could do would be to create a topic here called “Collaboration for Danish translation”, and then add a link to that page as an XML comment (like ). It wouldn’t be enforceable, but there would at least be a notice. addendum: also, since there is currently an open PR for the Danish translation, I would suggest commenting on that PR that you’d like to talk about the changes together. And requiring that you get the buy in of a previous translator is likely to never be enforced, either – when someone doesn’t submit a translation for a year or more, despite multiple releases of Notepad++ in the intervening time, all of which change the GUI in ways that there are more strings to be translated, it can easily be concluded that someone has abandoned their translation efforts.

Or…do a similar thing if one has the license.txt file as distributed with Notepad++, i.e., drag and drop the file into the browser and proceed as before. Great idea

@PeterJones This ComparePlus option is perfect. I appreciate any help. Too bad I can’t take advantage of it properly. It requires knowledge that I don’t have. New context menu entry translation

I have the opposite problem on Win10, the context menu is now using the OS language (non-English) despite the setup being run in English. Notepad++ interface is in English, but not the context menu, and also it jumped from mid-menu to almost the top of the menu, which is a bit of a bummer after years of being used to commit that to muscle memory I was able to edit the text inside the context menu DLL and that worked for the translation alone, but what’s the point… if it is intentional, it’s weird. If I select a different language for the setup it should use that across the board. This may be related to the new implementation that fixes (or breaks) under Win11, and so I’ll count my blessings for now since it could be much worse apparently.

@mustafa-yildiz I’m not 100% sure, but I’m assuming Npp does a simple integer comparison. A simple test seems to confirm this. And to ask for a feature request, you have a better chance that this gets implemented if you open it herehere.

@Claudio-Reniè-0 I have just updated the file italian.xml to 8.4.6. I don’t check so often the community blog. @Ices_Eyes is the official Italian Translator, and I’m the official Venetian Translator. Sometimes I contribute to Italian as well because, in order to translate to Venetian, it is easy to compare the translation with another Latin one. Both Ices_Eyes and I translate twice per year. I think that in the future, you can create a Pull-request directly with your Italian proposal or add comments to an existing one.

@PeterJones Thank you for your quick reply. I honestly wasn’t expecting a reply at all. I will work on the localization. Once done hopefully we can upload it for the community, as well. Just to make sure this is not a matter of preference of writing in different scripts, I want to clear some aspects. The Latin-script Kurdish is called Kurmanji or Northern Kurdish and the Arabic-script Kurdish is called Sorani or Central Kurdish. They are sometimes listed as dialects and sometimes as different languages. If and when the localization is done hopefully we can rename the language so as not to confuse other people.

@Fred-Fredagrico , Out of curiosity, did you translate the CHM that came with ancient versions of Notepad++? Or did you translate the new npp-user-manual.org website into Spanish, then compile it into a CHM file? I ask, because I cannot remember the last time CHM was included. And I don’t think a CHM or HTML manual has been distributed with Notepad++ since before v7.0 in 2016 (the most recent version I have with an HTML manual was v6.6.6). If you’re translating that, it’s extremely out of date. If, however, you’ve translated the npp-user-manual.org website and compiled it into CHM, I would be interesting to know that’s what you’ve done.
