Notepad++ is also NOT the only application which is doing this. Even Mozilla Firefox does the same. A solution for NP++ might be a good solution all around.

this mean that you need to debug/trace your system in order to find the cause.
First step would be using tools like procmon and sysmon (sysinternals tools) to try
to identify what causes the problem. But it can be very time consuming and you need to have
a good understanding on how operating systems and programs work.
First I would check if there is another process which collects all available cpu time or
if there is a memory issue. Second I would try to find coincidences, does this happen
when I do A and B together or after C … or if I have something connected to the pc
which isn’t normaly there. You see, it can be hard or software or a combination of both.

Sorry, can’t be more specific.
Cheers
Claudia

I did an upgrade from Windows7 to Windows 10. Although I can edit just fine with Notepad++, if I try and open files, I begin to have problems. If I do three opens in a row, the File Chooser dialog will no longer popup. Task Manager shows Notepad++ as “Not responding”, and it simply hangs. I can open file using the command line, just giving the filename as a parameter, but I cannot browse-open anything. I cannot save work from a new file, either.

I have tried killing other programs running in the “hidden icons”, and sometimes either that relieves the problem (for a few more tries), or it does nothing. The problem always comes back.

Notepad++ is also NOT the only application which is doing this. Even Mozilla Firefox does the same. A solution for NP++ might be a good solution all around.

Thanks in Advance.

It was installed over the top of 64-bit Windows 7.

NP++ works perfectly, so I guess the developers might need more details in order to fix it.

Was this a clean Windows 10 installation, or an upgrade like mine?

Are you able to file your work before you exit?

What happens if you disable the plugins (by temporarily removing the DLL’s from the plugins subdirectory).
