I’ve used many and find NotePad++ to be small and very responsive for my needs BUT I use the “find/replace in all open documents” often and I also screw up more than I would like. When I exit from NotePad++ I get prompted to save the file for EACH and EVERY open document. I at times might have 50, 60 or 100 documents open and I really hate this message for every document. If there is no way around this it may be a show stopper for me. I was also looking at EditPlus which is very similar and has the option to cancel the save for
all documents with just one prompt. Please say there is a work around for this or maybe a program enhancement in the near future.

Thank you,
I totally agree with you. What about a Discard All button with a second pop-up question dialogue “Are you sure?” ?

I also agree. This option is better than one of the dialogs available in WinMerge, which has a Discard All button, but without asking a confirmation.

Here is a similar issue: when files are modified by another application, Notepad++ Always expects a Yes/No answer for each modified file. Sure, you can avoid this with the miscellaneous setting Update silently , but this assumes a “Yes” answer for all the files. It would be better to add two extra buttons: Yes to All and No to All.

Sometimes user interfaces are designed to keep users from doing dumb things (perhaps accidently–that’s intended to have a double-meaning). If there were more button choices in this dialog box, people would invariably press the wrong button and we’d see posts here “I pressed the wrong button and Notepad++ ate all of my data–how can I get it back?”

Claudia’s “workaround” #1 (I’m hesitant to call it that…) hits the sweet spot…it requires the user to put more thought into what they are really doing than clicking a button, and it isn’t even a hack…key repeat functionality is a normal thing–in this case being used to say “No” (don’t save) very quickly to a bunch of things. Very good. I already upvoted it and wish I could upvote it again. :-D

I will give your solution a try. Hopefully this can get fixed. I mentioned EditPlus and it issues the same prompt with the options to save or not BUT it also gives you the option of holding the Shift key and clicking no to skip the save for all files. I would have preferred a separate button but this method gets the job done.

Thanks again to everyone.

workaround1: press alt+n on first dialog and keep pressed until npp closes.

workaround2: use settings->preferences->backup->session snapshot and periodic backup
this would close npp without asking for saving as it creates snapshots from the open files.
