i use WinSCP with notepad++ as external editor. When i open a file of the server side and set preferences in notepad++, there will no saving this. (example MultiInst, Auto-Completion, …)</p>
<p dir="auto">C:\Users\xxx\Portable\npp.7.5.1.bin.minimalist.x64\notepad++.exe -multiInst !.!</p>
<p dir="auto">The notepad++ in WinSCP is another version to the notepad++ was i use on Windows 7.</p>

I use this notepad as -multiInst.<br />
The problem is a bit tricky. Made settings, whether via Settings-&gt;Preferences, or via the menu bar options, are only saved if the instance in which these changes were made was closed. Correct? This can be very confusing with -multiInst and many open instances. I will remember that.</p>

<p dir="auto">as a portable version it should have a file doLocalConf.xml (file without content)<br />
in the same folder where noteapd++.exe is. This informs notepad to read/write the<br />
config files, like config.xml, within the same directory. Can you double check and see<br />
if the doLocalConf file exists and if the config.xml does get modified?</p>
