odd. they worked a few days ago, but aren’t working now. Apparently, either google’s cache has a timeout, or a certain number of days of the original being unreachable that it won’t allow you to access the cache (or my repeated cache queries caused it to purge the cache). Sorry about that.

I’m glad the Wayback is working.

I believe the one you want is “Editing Configuration Files”, which is cached at http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:http://docs.notepad-plus-plus.org/index.php/Editing_Configuration_Files&strip=1&vwsrc=0

yeah… I think he just didn’t want the effort of installing the wiki software, and locking it all down again, when he moved to the new host. Makes some sense, really. But I agree it’s made it inconvenient in the interim.

Hopefully you as a contributor to the new manual have an entire copy

Hehehehe. When I started working on the perl module, and needed access to the Messages And Notifications – I had a copy open quite frequently – that was right when the site went down. Fortunately, Chrome pointed me to the google cache when it couldn’t find the page. When I realized that the old wiki pages were never coming back, I figured out how to get the cache of the “table of contents” page (I followed the “Short Title(All)” link, then followed the google cache link for that), and then downloaded all the cached versions that I could. Unfortunately, the pages with some special characters in the name didn’t get cached properly (that I can find), and I had to go slow enough that I didn’t trigger google-cache’s I-think-you’re-a-robot-illegally-roboting-our-robot-site speed timeout, but eventually got most of the files. There are a few I still don’t have. Maybe someday, I’ll figure out a way to get my emails through to The Boss (his ISP blocks email coming from my ISP), and ask if I can get a full copy of the old Wiki data… but I haven’t figured out how, yet.

(Hmm, I just realized the web Wayback Machine probably has a copy of that index, too: yep. I might have to see if I can get the remaining files from there.)

Since you seem to have some knowledge of how to do it, can you tell me how I’d find the cached version of the document that explained how to manually build Notepad++ find macros? I don’t know how to explain it better. I seem to recall it had some tables that had numbers like 1700, 1701, 1702 in it…

It is too bad this documentation (old but often still relevant) went offline before all of its good information made it into the new user manual.

Hopefully you as a contributor to the new manual have an entire copy of the documentation from the site that is now now longer there.

Specifically, that page can be found thru http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:http://docs.notepad-plus-plus.org/index.php/Keyboard_And_Mouse_Shortcuts&strip=1&vwsrc=0

However, that documentation site hasn’t been updated for literally years, which is presumably why Don didn’t bother moving it to the new host after the recent webhost-renewal-debacle. Plus, there is new documentation in progress, which is temporarily displayed at http://notepad-plus-plus.github.io/npp-usermanual/ (there may be a new URL in the future, once the “visual design” meets Don’s desires – but the underlying content should be the same, and should be more actively maintained, because there’s a team working on it, rather than just relying on one person to find the time and desire to update documentation).

The Preferences page has a section on the Shortcut Mapper; it explains how to filter in the Shortcut Mapper dialog, to help you find keyboard shortcuts you are looking for. Each tab of the Shortcut mapper roughly corresponds to one menu… though the “Main menu” tab uses Category column to tell which of the main File/Edit/Search/…/About menus it’s referring to.

The Style Configurator has the benefit, compared to a documentation site, that it will show you the keyboard shortcuts in your instance, even if they have been changed away from the default keyboard shortcuts. (This is especially useful if your IT group has customized the shortcuts before distributing Notepad++ throughout the company.) The chances are, because there already exists an in-tool way of displaying the active shortcuts, there’s not a high likelihood of the documentation developers going through the tedium of maintaining a list of all possible shortcuts and their default values on the documentation site.

That said, if there’s any higher level information that you don’t think is clear in the modern Shortcut Mapper docs, let me know. (As one of the doc team, who contributed significantly to this new Preferences page, I’m quite interested in making that page as useful as possible.)
