If you do a regular expression search for <code>^</code>, for example, Notepad++ will put up an annotation indicating <code>^ zero length match</code>.  However, if something else (e.g. the <em>Find</em> window) is in the same screen space, the annotation will appear closer to the user than the other entity.  Perhaps a screenshot helps:</p>

<p dir="auto">Here the annotation should clearly be <em>under</em> the <em>Find</em> window, not on top of it.</p>
<p dir="auto">I should/will put in a bug report.</p>
<p dir="auto">BTW, I’ve never really liked that the zero-length-match annotation uses <code>^</code> as part of its text – easy to confuse the meaning with the <code>^</code> used in the regex.  The annotation attempts to use it to point to something (totally different meaning).</p>

<p dir="auto">I was actually working on some script code that deals with annotations at the time I noticed that, so I guess that was on my mind. :-)</p>

<p dir="auto">Not to be pedantic, but that actually isn’t an “annotation” in the sense of a Scintilla annotation.  It’s actually a “calltip” in the Scintilla sense.  Using those terms in the issue report may help a quicker fix?</p>
