I’ve put in a feature-improvement request with the NodeBB folks. They have agreed that they will fix NodeBB software so that @-mention and the automatic reply links will not count for the “links require 1 reputation” restriction.

After the updated NodeBB is released, we’ll try to get our NodeBB-instance updated so it has that fixed feature, so then hitting “reply” will work without 0-reputation users having to delete stuff that’s automatically put in the post.

Sorry for the inconvenience, but it’s a constant balance between ease of use and fighting spam links. The user experience on this aspect should improve again in the near future.

Yeah, I encountered the same strange thing few days ago when I was trying to post for the first time.
You can’t post because there is a message which says you need 1 reputation point to include links in a comment.
But even after I removed all links from my comment, I still couldn’t post, and the same message was still popping up.
It turned out that I needed to remove ALL links which means also these links which are generated automatically when you press Reply or Quote button.

For example in : @<bdi>freezer2022</bdi> said in What is reputation?,

you need change @<bdi>freezer2022</bdi> to @ freezer2022 (put a space inside)

and change What is reputation?, to text value “What is reputation”

Despite I’m an advanced computer user, I needed to spent several minutes to figure it out, now I imagine that many novice user like you,
are unable to figure it out, and they just resign from contributing on the forum which is not expected result I think.

I think that internal links, which comes from a trusted forum domain (community.notepad-plus-plus.org) and which are automatically generated when pressing Reply or Quote button, should be allowed, (if it doesn’t cause any security risks). In case the issue can’t be fixed such way, the other way is to update the message which pops up to include a clear info that users need to remove links generated automatically as well.
