I normally stay out of the “Boycott” discussions, because they’re a complete waste of time (as is this one, for example, so I’ll be leaving this one again), but it seems really odd that you just started complaining about this a year after you successfully created your account and made your first post. If the owners of the forum software and the service that they are donating to host our forum (they normally charge people and organizations to host with them, but are giving the hosting for free to us, so beggars cannot be choosers), or the contributors to their ecosystem (not me, not the developer of Notepad++) ever provide a plugin that allowed a “login with XYZ” for any other OAUTH provider, I would enable that in a heartbeat, because I’m all for giving users a choice. I cannot speak for the rest of the internet, but the email-only didn’t work here, despite your repeated protestations, for whatever reason, so I’ve tried to help give users as much choice from OAUTH providers as possible; unfortunately, those are the only two for now.

Our choice of login has nothing to do with censoring people from speaking (as should be blatantly obvious, because we literally provide a topic for whining about Notepad++ in a forum dedicated to advocating for and helping people use Notepad++ … the N++ developer is highly into free speech), nor “shilling for the techbro cloud elites”, and everything to do with trying to make the user experience as good as possible for as many as we can.

Accepting a EULA without meaning it and under false pretense and identity, but mister this is against the terms of services, which will soon become the only law of the land !

But still please here me out, most of the rest of the internet manages very well with just email second factor and captcha. I don’t understand why this forum would be any different.

I understand, like all censorship, this is for the benefit of the enforcers, the moderators and to protect the sanity of this space and the good people who work on notepad++ but this is throwing the baby out with the bath water.

This is the only way here about the minor sharp edges, that aren’t worth scaling the subscription-wall to complain about until you have learned to live with the pain of being cut on it that you don’t even feel like. Like for instance dealing with the find/replace dialog which is somehow both excellent and terrible at the same time.

So for now, we only support “Sign in with” for Github and Google (with a modern icon for Google):

Don actually had to contact the NodeBB provider to make the fix, but the icon is now the modern Google “G” icon, instead of the outdated “G+” icon.

Google+ sign up… uhm… Google+ was dropped by Google YEARS ago.

It turns out that button lets you sign-in using your Google account. The icon should be changed. I suspect @PeterJones can fix that.

@PeterJones - I tested by opening a private browsing window and then dropping the URL of this forum thread into it. The process to share the love or hate seem clear and intuitive enough.

Other ways are disabled.
