[bug] Space not inserted for tabs
-
Win 11-64
NPP 8.8.1Actions:
1: edit->blank operations -> Space to tab (leading)
2: edit ->blank operations -> Space to tab (all)At this point all tab entries are retained as tab and not changed to a space.
Settings->Preferences->Indentation retains “Indent using: Tab Character”
Manually setting the "Indent using: " to “Space character(s)” fixes the issue.
Fix: Changing Edit->Blank Operations tab setting should change Settings_Preferences->Indentation" as appropriate when going from Space to Tab (leading)

@Arthur-Schwarez said in [bug] Space not inserted for tabs:

I disagree. I will occasionally use those to temporarily switch from one to the other, without wanting it to change what characters will be used when I add new lines, etc. If it were to change the preference on me, it would annoy me.

One of us is confused.
1: edit->blank operations -> Space to tab (leading)
2: edit ->blank operations -> Space to tab (all)Those commands change spaces to tabs. If you want to change tabs to spaces, use:
Edit | Blank Operations | TAB to Space
Testing, I don’t see that either Space to TAB changes any tabs into spaces regardless of the setting at Settings | Preferences… | Indent | Indent using.
Am I missing something, or are you?

As I read it, it seems that the OP wants their Preference to be updated if they use the Edit, Blank Operations, TAB to Space (or Space to TAB).
Of course, I too could be confused. The lack of detail does make the OP open to interpretation.
I’m with @PeterJones on this.
One is a “Preference”, the other a “one-shot function”. This function should not be making changes to a Preference. And at the moment it isn’t, which I believe to be the correct decision.
