Updated Notepad++ VPAT?
-
The university that I work at requires an accessibility review for any software that would be installed on university-owned equipment. I’m working on getting Notepad++ approved to go in the library computer lab so that students can use it.
I am pleased to see that Notepad++ has a VPAT. Unfortunately it was last updated in June of 2019. There have been dozens of updates in the intervening six and a half years. Are any plans to update that? Past experience suggests that campus IT will look askance at any VPAT older than a year or so.
This is likely to become more important in the near future. There are some new regulations going into effect next April (2026) which place accessibility under the Americans with Disabilities Act. Affected organizations (particularly public entities like many universities, governmental bodies etc) will need to up their accessibility game or accept some pretty significant legal risk. So there are likely to be more institutions looking for current VPAT info before long.

A few months ago, the developer created an issue in the Notepad++ issue tracker to try to remind himself to work on updating the VPAT, but it doesn’t appear anyone volunteered to help improve it, nor does it appear the developer has had time to work on it. You might want to ping there (because the developer does not read the Community Forum in depth, so won’t see your post here). I don’t know if he knows about the ADA deadline mentioned, so if you informed him, it might help him prioritize his activities.

Thank you, that’s very helpful. I’ll do that.
