Is there an option/plugin to allow for multiple discrete configs?

I am running into situations where it would be nice to have multiple configurations (sets of preferences) available. Is there an option/plugin for this? It would be nice to have separate discrete configurations of notepad++ and then be able to open each different set of configurations with shortcuts. I suppose installing notepad++ multiple times into different directories with a portable version and calling the one with the preferences you want is an option here?

Yes, this is how I would do it. Rather than creating “real” copies (and having to update them), you might want to use symlinks though. An underused feature that can save a lot of hassle.
