NPP will not open my page in Firefox or IE

NPP “launch in Firefox” opens Firefox but won’t show my page in Firefox. Instead I get a pop-up box:

you have chosen to open the next file:
 **index.php**

What should Firefox do with this file?

*  Open with .... Notepad++
*  Safe file

I re-installed NPP but that doesn’t change anything.
What could be the origin of this problem?

A php file is not meant to be opened by a web browser. It is ran by a php server that creates the HTML, etc. for a browser.

@dail i have only created php-files and NPP has always (just until yesterday) opened these files with “launch in Firefox”.
