Minimizing
-
@dail you are right, just tried it.
When starting as administrator it doesn’t “fly” to the systray.Claudia
-
i just changed the shortcut to “run this program in compatibility mode” “Windows XP (service pack 3)” and it minimized to the tray. what is causing the issue in recent builds?
using Windows 7 x64 -
I’ve been having exactly the same issue for the past few versions.
Are we the only people experiencing this> (i.e. Is this not broken for everyone?) :o/

Hello @Paul-Nicholas,
well, everyone who start npp as administrator and uses os >= VISTA ( I assume ).
Cheers

Still seeing this problem in 6.9.1 in Windows 7 x64. I have to go back to 6.8.3 to fix it.
-
AAAANNNNNNDDDDD Still happening. why is this being over looked?
-
I still see this in 6.9.2, and it seems like at least one other guy has now posted about it: https://notepad-plus-plus.org/community/topic/11969/minimize-to-system-tray-not-working-with-admin-account
-
A workaround is use `TrayIt! ’
-
Just tested 7.1. This bug is still present.
-
Apparently, a workaround is to run it in Windows 7 Compatibility Mode.
-
Well, here we are at v7.3.2 and the problem STILL exists. I am on Windows 8.1 . After testing both the x86 and x64 versions of npp the only solution to get this program, that used to work fine, to minimize to tray via settings>preferences> misc.>minimize to tray, is to run the x86 version in Windows XP mode. But that leaves you with thick XP style title bars. So for this long time being i just stick with v6.8.3 .

You are free to like the features you like, but it is hard for me to believe that anyone would refuse the bug fixes and feature enhancements between 6.8.3 and the current version just because the program won’t minimize to the tray. :-)

@Alan-Kilborn
How is it so hard to believe, when in fact i am sure you are using npp for it’s features? -
Since this issue, that started at 6.8.4, has not been addressed i have finally found a better than nothing solution that actually works.
right click desktop and create new shortcut
add this as the location (obviously changing the path to your file)
C:\Windows\System32\runas.exe /trustlevel:0x20000 “C:\PATH TO\notepad++.exe”
set the name then right click on the shortcut>properties>change icon and navigate to notepad++.exe -

Well, there are features in a text-editing program, and then FEATURES in a text-editing program. If Notepad++ refused to accept the ‘A’ character when I typed it, then I would probably find something different or use an old version that didn’t have such a problem. If it simply doesn’t minimize to the tray?–BAH! Report it as a bug, but don’t get stuck on a several-year-old version because of THAT. Pick your battles. :-D

@Alan-Kilborn
please don’t tell me you feel like your are adding something by adding nothing. why are you even in this thread? -
-
Haha. Nice one. I’m even “plus one’ing it”. I was just answering the question you posed about features. I really don’t have anything to add, just was pointing out how stupid it is to stay on a really old version and miss out on new features (since that old release) due to the so dumb minimize to tray issue. But you have Freedom Of Choice! Don’t worry, I’m out now. :~D
