    So is it possible to select a few lines of code (e.g. within a script block) and actually change only the background color?, if not this feature NEEDS to be added on the next release.

      give it a try and play with
      Settings->StyleConfigurator->Global Styles->Selected Text Colour

        ain’t happening…what I meant was the ability to not change the color of the background while selected but rather the option of changing the background color after the selection is released.

          what about npps 5 builtin styles?
          Select text, right-click->StyleToken and choose one from it.
