I have not looked at the source code but it appears that the file open dialog boxes are old-style dialog boxes and the Save As dialog boxes are Explorer-style. The main difference is that the Save As dialog boxes have the icons along the left for “Quick Access”, “Desktop”, “Libraries”, “This PC” and “Network”. The “Libraries” provide an easy way to get to our “Documents”. Is it possible to convert the file open dialog boxes to use the Explorer-style? I don’t see any customizations in the file open dialog boxes but I assume customizations would be easier to do using the newer Explorer-style.

The reason I am suggesting this is because I don’t see a way to conveniently open a file from our “Documents” folder. It is totally possible to navigate to the folders but it would be nice to make this common feature more convenient. So I did a little research and discovered that the Explorer-style file open dialog boxes have the icons on the left in the manner that the Save As dialog boxes do.

Update: See Open and Save As Dialog Boxes for a description of explorer-style and old-style.
