Notepad++ 7.5.2 release
-
@Ryan-Trunten I tried both versions yesterday and got the same error. On a clean install (system that never had Notepad++ on it before) it works fine with no errors but on an upgrade/reinstall it pops up with a message right at the end of the install process that says this: “To register the Notepad++ shell extensions properly, place NppShell.dll in the same directory as the Notepad++ executable.” with an OK button.
Like @Neurosis said, the program works fine but it’s throwing errors on our installer.

I just downloaded “npp.Installer.exe” from Filehippo. My downloader automatically runs Malwarebytes, and it reported a trojan: “Trojan.FakeNPP”.
To check, I then downloaded it from this web site and got the same binary file and the same trojan reported by Malwarebytes.
Is this a fake trojan or a fake NPP?
What is going on?
-
@Mike-Horton Interesting. Mine updated from the previous versions just fine.
Curious if finding and moving that file it mentions would do anything. -
Are the themes not included in this release? I see that the option is checked but I don’t see them anywhere. I’ve tried installing and running as Admin as well as not using APPDATA. This happens with both the 32 and 64 bit versions.

OK, so nobody at Notepad++ is bothered about a possible trojan?

There is an regression in this release. Not only themes, but localization is also missing. Fix has been submitted and @donho has to review. Hopefully will be available in next release again.

I confirm error “To register the Notepad++ shell extensions properly, place NppShell.dll in the same directory as the Notepad++ executable.” is also a regression.
Root cause for both the errors (shell dlll and missing themes) is same. There was an execution order issue in the nsis script.

@Bill-Huber Ahh, you’re talking about the main Notepad++ page: https://notepad-plus-plus.org, not the application About Notepad++ box! That is expected, as the news page for each release states:
Auto-updater will be triggered in few days if there’s no critical issue found.

ClaudiaHi Claudia,
Thanks for this. I checked the SHA hash and it was the same as you reported.
Then I updated my Malwarebytes virus definitions and now it is reported as clean.
Phew!I guess I now know what to do the next time Malwarebytes reports a problem…

The Shell Extension doesn’t register probably if install with Silent parameter. Also the PluginManager is missing.
-
Plugin Manger missing in clean install (32-bit).
-
FAQ: Why plugin manager was removed: see https://notepad-plus-plus.org/news/notepad-7.5-released.html
FAQ: How to install it: see http://bruderste.in/npp/pm/#install -
Using the 32-bit version, I find that if I use the mouse to drag an edge of the window (to change its size), the cursor sometimes persists when I return the mouse to the working area of the NP++ window.
-
Regarding the shell extension error messaging, it will be fixed in v7.5.3, which will be available in a couple of days.

It’s a regression which will be fixed in the next release. Just be patient for a couple of day.

I got an Exception message says Access violation.
I’ve tried installing the older version, version number 7.5, Didn’t get this exception message.
Here is the Screenshot
By the way, 7.5.3 the new updated didn’t fix this issues -
