      Donho,

Thanks for fixing the bug I reported in 7.5.2, where NP++ didn’t always display the correct cursor!

I’m pretty casual user, and have installed this version on a replacement work laptop. I am missing the Plug In Manager despite having installed the 32bit version. Am I missing something?

        Thank you.

          Hello, @Don-Ho,

I can understand how frustrating it can be to get no feedback on your N++ improvements, on each release !

Personally, it could just mean that the majority of N++ users are “globally” satisfied of present N++ features :-)) ( I know : work is NEVER finished ! )

Just console yourself in knowing that, every second, many people, all over the world, are typing in, with N++, to elaborate various projects ! And when you type the first four letters note, N++ is the second pertinent Google answer ( just after the new Samsung note8 ) : not so bad, isn’t it ?!

As for me, I didn’t post anything about this last version, as I, principally, use a 7z-portable version, without the need of an installer ! But I must admit that I have not commented the release’s announces, since a long time, too :-(

May I ask you, Don, if you planned a new Scintilla release, for soon ? I bet that, this time, you should get a lot of beta-testers, to find out possible bugs and test the benefit of that new Scintilla release :-))

Many thanks, again, Don and the different contributors, for all the work done, to improve that awesome product !

          Best Regards,

          guy038

I’m still using 6.8.3, but maybe I’ll be ready to make a useful comment on version 7.5.3 in a few years. :-)

If I had not run across NPP, I imagine I eventually would have found some other editor that would have let me navigate the UEFI codebase. But, I am quite sure I would not have been nearly as productive.

Many, many thanks for the effort!

                  Thanks for your efforts.

It seems to have some error in ‘Autodetect character encoding’ feature.
My text file is encoded in Korean EUC-KR or Windows 949.
Npp 7.5.3 detects this file as Chinese GB2312.
But Npp 7.4.2 detects it correctly as Korean EUC-KR.

                  Please, check it again.
                  Thanks.

                    Donho,

I would praise you fulsomely if you found a solution to my problem with the search box - described some time ago. Basically, I really don’t want options such as whole-word-search, case sensitive, or no wrap around to remain in effect after I have used them. This causes confusion because later searches fail.

My suggestion would be that whenever the search window is closed - either explicitly or by closing NPP - these options should revert to their default values. The current defaults seem sensible, but maybe the defaults could be configurable.

These options are very useful on a one-off basis, but as it is I hesitate to use them in case I accidentally forget to cancel them after use.

Thank you and congrats for the excellent and very useful editor Notepad++ is!

I’d like to contribute with reporting what may be a bug.

                      I’m receiving error:

Frankly i do not see that much of the changes but this may have to do with np++ mostly being a secondary editor nowadays (because it’s just have fallen out of fashion). I mostly updated an old version due to the CIA-hack thing. All the other changes basically go unnoticted. It’s nice that someone is working on it though and it’s nice that it’s still lean and mean in comparison to other bloated editors.

Top of my list would be a complete UI overhaul though and maybe a friendlier plugin manager and/or scrapping it and making plugins simpler to create or even make plugins compatible with some other editor that has a large amount of them available.

Yes I think fashion is the reason how people pick a new editor, so
‘marketing’ is important and UI is like a package of a product.
I personally don’t look at the package much but there is room
                          for improvements certainly.

making plugins simpler to create or even make plugins compatible with some other editor that has a large amount of them available.

Creating plugin in C/C++ is of course too hard. Younger people
don’t understand a word in C++, so it is a dying language for the new generation.
My opinion, an good step would be to work more on Python scripting, probably
as the core part of the editor and improving it further.
Many things can be made by means of scripting and I can’t imagine
a modern editor without good scripting system.

And, as I already asked in the forum, there should be a
way to bind keys without modifiers, i.e. an additional separate mode like
in VIM, this will definitely attract more advanced users, worrying
about editing productivity. I personally can workaround it with AHK
scripting on OS level, but AHK programming is definitely not what I would
                          call easy or fun.

But all in all NPP feels really good and fast application.
Hope this course of minimalism and perfrormance will stay.

Hey there. I’m having some trouble with getting npp to not use appdata. I’ve made sure that the ‘do not use appdata’ option is checked when running installer, but it doesn’t seem to work. I’ve also looked in the debug info section at the local conf mode after both having the option for do not use appdata selected and not selected while installing and it always seems to be set to off. Is this a bug or am I missing something along the way? OS is win10 enterprise x64.

Soon after I posted my first comment on Facebook, I realized something from-bad-to-worst happened to Don Ho, the author of Notepad++. I used to visit this community a few months ago. I came back and my prediction came to fruition.

I read his posts regarding the latest release of NPP (7.5.3). It is outrageous how he views the users of his application (a pretty good one until 7.4 especially). The language he uses is definitely the sign of a druggy-monkey.

                                        “donho posted 14 days ago
No praise? No compliment? Not even a “thank you”?! You heartless ungrateful bastards!!!
I’ll fucking continue to improve Notepad++ and that’ll make you all feel regret for not saying a word on my release!!”

The users are simply puppets and cult addicts who only exist to satisfy the sick ego of an ungrown child! He can’t live with the idea that the users of NPP have lives, unlike Don Ho and a few cult addicts.

A loyal visitor and user put it eloquently:
“Be thankful it hasn’t gone the other way? LOL BTW… still on 7.2.2 — thank you for THAT one…”

He, like myself and most NPP users, got sick and tired of the maniacal campaign of updating-by-degrading NPP.

I wouldn’t be surprised o hear the druggy-monkey mouth-foaming asking ALL NPP users to stop using the editor — or else he will sue all of them in the International Court of Hague! He is that sick now…

“Be thankful it hasn’t gone the other way? LOL BTW… still on 7.2.2 — thank you for THAT one…”

                                          You’re talking about me…

no, No, NO…that’s not what I meant (hopefully nobody else , esp. @donho, interpreted it that way)!

The real reason I’m still on 7.2.2 is:

I’m just too LAZY to upgrade!

[I use a very customized portable install and it takes a lot of work to upgrade it]

                                          :-D

It seems to have some error in ‘Autodetect character encoding’ feature.
My text file is encoded in OEM 852.
Npp 7.5.3 and 7.5.2 detects this file as OEM 737.
But Npp 7.5.1 detects it correctly as OEM 852.

                                            Thanks.
