      Depending on which side of the line we live on, we either got one last version in 2021, or a brand new version for 2022.

      Either way, thank you, Don.

      Happy New Year, everyone.

        @donho, thanks for the new release.
        One thing capacity is an amount, ability is a new feature.
        May be you can remember this ;-)

          Probably the best word for point 1 would have been “capability”.
          And I’m not even a 100% native English speaker.

          May be you can remember this

          Doubtful. But Don is not a native English speaker, and given that, I think he does a pretty damn good job with expressing himself in the language.

          But really, those in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones, unless they want to get picked apart. Hint: Your “may be” should have been “maybe”.

          And… your “one thing capacity…” should have been, possibly, “But one thing, capacity…”

          The grammar police are on high alert.

          Sure, you put in a :-) , but I don’t see the humor.

            @stefan-pendl

            Just checked the definition of capacity in English - indeed, it’s about amount. it is fixed in this announce and will be fixed in the website. Too late for the change log come with the released packages though.

            @Alan-Kilborn

            I wouldn’t use “grammar police” such serious accusation… rather “semantic nazi” :)

              Since dark mode was introduced, there is a setting in the config.xml file at <NotepadPlus> -> <GUIConfigs> -> stylerTheme that has the path for the DarkModeDefault.xml file.
              This parameter has the full path for the file, but in a portable installation it makes no sense (it is not portable this way).

                This is a know bug since a long time and I hope it will be fixed sometime.
                Also if you have a session where all open files are saved in the backup folder of the N++ installation, the path is absolute.

                        We know - new default - ugh. Change with:

                        Settings => Preferences…

                          New install or update? We were promised this would not happen to existing installs.

                            @graham-norris ,
                            As far as I know it hasn’t been. Mine wasn’t set before the update, when I updated through the update system, it wasn’t changed, and I had to turn it on myself. Of course, I haven’t updated to the 8.2 because it’s not released for GUP to update it yet, so.

                                No bug. Finding the update this way has to be enabled by the N++ author, when he decides that such an update is “ready”. Apparently he hasn’t decided that yet.

                                    Nope, that’s where folks who might want to test it, can download the latest and greatest from, but when it’s out of “quarantine” by the author, it will signal the application to generate an update at the application that is checked, I believe it’s every 15 days(?) and then the application can dowload the update.

                                      FYI:
                                      Due to a quite critical regression of v8.2, the auto-updater will not be trigger by this release.
                                      The regression has been fixed in v8.2.1.
