BUG: 7.8.8+ Open dialog not working correctly on Linux/wine
-
Hi,
All versions besides 7.8.8+ have a new open dialog that doesn’t recognize when the enter key is pressed and can’t navigate or open files correctly. I recently upgraded to 8 and noticed this…and immediately downgraded back to 7.8.8. I tried every version one at a time and they all seem to have that same problem and use the new open dialog.
I’m not sure exactly when you changed the open dialog, but please put it back or fix it so I can use the new version.

First, have you tried all the way through 8.2.1? Because I think that the change-list for v8.1 fixed a bug in the Open dialog.
Please note: you should understand that Linux/Wine is not supported, because Notepad++ is a product designed for Windows, not Linux – if there is a bug that only shows up in Linux/Wine, it will not be addressed. If it’s a bug that you can show also occurs on real Windows, then it is fair game for reporting to the developers, but if you report a bug that only happens on Linux/Wine, it will be dismissed as a problem with Wine. Please see the “Support for Systems other than the MS Windows Family” and the “Supported Systems” table

@peterjones Yes I just tested (just now) the version 8.2.1 and the bug still exists, I’m not sure why I’m telling you because you said it won’t be fixed anyway and while I understand it is made for Windows only, I’m sure there are a lot of Wine users as Notepad++ is listed on PlayonLinux under development and a high compatibility rating - but I imagine it won’t be as more and more users find out about this bug. Version 5-7.8.8 it does not exist in and I have been using Notepad++ for years on both operating systems.

I am using Notepad++ v8.7 under WINE on Debian 12 (bookworm) Linux, and I too have the issue where newer Notepad++ versions have an incomplete file dialog box. For instance, it has no “up folder” button, only forward/back…
Here is a screenshot to show what I am talking about:
In contrast to the “Browse” dialog opened from ODIN disk imager under WINE (used just for an example):
Would it be possible to implement a user option to enable the old style dialog box? The type that was compatible with WINE?
Thanks!
