About the New Update 8.4.4
-
I have been using Notepad++ for 8 years. So far I’ve always worked flawlessly with lots of open tabs. Until I just installed the 8.4.4 update. All my open tabs are gone. I tried to open it from the backup folder. However, it cannot show from which FTP it is open. Static backups left only in my local. What can I do now? Everything got mixed up. The last update is a complete disappointment. I hope it doesn’t stay like this and there is a solution.

That happens if the session file is overwritten. Some users have reported that happening (for all of Notepad++ history; it is nothing specific to v8.4.4)… but it’s confusing, because the installer is programmed to not overwrite the session file (or anything else in
%AppData%\Notepad++
) if it already exists.I am curious whether you (and others who have reported this) accidentally changed from “AppData configuration mode” to “local (portable) configuration mode”, or vice versa, when doing the installation – if Notepad++ isn’t looking for the config files in the same location, then your old config (including the session file). Because none of my experiments have ever been able to accidentally delete the session file when upgrading.
However, it cannot show from which FTP it is open.
So I presume you are using NppFTP plugin. Its cache goes in
%AppData%\Notepad++\plugins\config\NppFTP\cache\*
, where each folder off ofcache\*
matches the name of the site, and the folders under that are which directory hierarchy each file was from. So you should hopefully have enough info there to piece that back together.I hope it doesn’t stay like this and there is a solution.
That statement assumes that it was a systematic issue with the installer/update.
But with the multitude of users who had no issue when they updated to v8.4.4, there isn’t a big smoking gun. -

I don’t use portables. Notepad++ is installed on my Windows. What I do is always the same. When I receive an update notification, I download and install it. I am not changing any options. It gave an error with NppFTP in this update. I thought my FTP information would be lost and I ignored it. But in the end, I didn’t have any tabs in the section where my tabs appeared.
I open tabs again, and when a row is full, it keeps adding invisibly instead of scrolling down. I can only change it with Document List, arrows in tab bar and CTRL + Page Up / Page Down. However, it was much better to see all the tabs at once. I think it should at least remain an option.However, it cannot show from which FTP it is open.

When each tab is open, the local or FTP directory of that file appears in the Notepad++ title section. Even if I turn my computer off and on, if I update the file and save it, it will connect to that FTP. I can’t do that right now because he doesn’t know.
By the way, AppData%\Notepad++\plugins\config\NppFTP\cache* is not on my computer. Could it have been deleted during the update?I hope it doesn’t stay like this and there is a solution.

If you have any questions and I can be of assistance, please do not hesitate to ask me. I would be glad if I could be of any use.
Thank you
