I was searching for some text, but N++ missed one occurrence b/c it wasn’t a “whole word” (despite “Match whole word only” being unchecked.

Can’t you paste a readable screenshot here?
Pasting the actual text would be even better, as long as you do it properly (i.e., in a code block); see HERE.

@Mugsys-RapSheet It seems you did rather highlighting by clicking on R9ZRoom222 than searching? If so, R9ZRoom222_Icon was not found by the highlighting mechanism, which looks correct to me.

@datatraveller1 Maybe I’m wrong, I don’t know how the highlighting mechanism is supposed to work. It might indeed be nicer if R9ZRoom222_Icon was found by the highlighting, depending from the Find settings.

It’s written in the online manual here. There are various settings which may well have contributed to the OP’s issue. Unless they respond we may never know.

PS when I saw the OP’s question I went another direction, zero-width characters, but after seeing your response I think you might have the reason.

@Terry-R Thank you, so if highlighting was the real issue, the OP could uncheck Settings - Preferences - Highlighting - Matching - Match whole word only or probably even better, the OP could useSettings - Preferences - Highlighting - Matching - Use Find dialog settings. I think I’ll use this setting in the future.
