N++ v8.5.2 cannot open multifile with one n++ issue.
It seems that prior to version 8.5.2 of Notepad++, you were able to open multiple files using the same instance of the program, and could also open additional files in a secondary instance of the program. However, with the current version, you are experiencing a change in behavior where opening multiple files in the same instance of Notepad++ now opens them one by one, while changing the program settings will allow you to open all files in the same instance.
I’m not sure if this problem is specific to my system or if it’s a known issue with Notepad++ version 8.5.2.

I dragged multiple files and opened multiple files using the menu option file->open dialog box and it worked.
What actions do you perform that do not work? -
Probably this is related to the
Edit with Notepad++
Windows 11 Explorer context menu option, which is rather in a state of flux currently. -
The problem is only one NPP session.
In the previous version, I could open files with 2 N++ sessions.
for the example, the first NPP open file1/2/3, the 2nd NPP open file4/5/6, 3rd NPP open file7/8/9. (3 NPP UI)
In N++ 8.5.2, only one NPP opens file1~9. All the settings cannot change back to 3 sessions opening different files.I didn’t use dragged file function.
I used “edit with Notepad++” in Win10. (maybe Win11 is the same problem) -
@bwisely said in N++ v8.5.2 cannot open multifile with one n++ issue.:
for the example, the first NPP open file1/2/3, the 2nd NPP open file4/5/6, 3rd NPP open file7/8/9. (3 NPP UI). In N++ 8.5.2, only one NPP opens file1~9.
There are several ways how to open a file in a new session
- from Windows: context menu
- from Windows: -multiInst parameter
- from npp: context menu on an opened tab (Move document)
- from npp: Run/Alt+F6
About which one are you talking, and do others behave normally?

@I-zi-bia
at NPP 8.5.2, I use the mouse’s right menu to open the files. (Edit with notepad++)And the NPP will be one file by one session to open files. (my setting is "always in multi-instance mode)
but before 8.5.2, when I used the mouse’s right menu to open multi-files, NPP only used one session to open files.
I tried downgrading to 8.5.1, and the multi-instance mode returned to normal.
Also, I tried to remove NPP with all settings. Install a new NPP 8.5.2, and the issue is the same. -
At v8.5.3 is same the problem. I cannot open multi files with one NPP853 by the mouse right key’s menu. (open with NPP)

I too experience the same using Windows 11. I think the issue is with the OS, the same version works fine on Windows Server 2012
