Windows XP support being dropped...how do people feel?

It appears that the devs are planning for 7.9.2 to be the last version of Notepad++ that will support Windows XP, see HERE.
For me, I don’t really care. Well, I care in the sense that I think some areas of N++ were “held back” in order to maintain compatibility with what really is an ancient OS.
But wasn’t this tried before?
And the user community got so “bent out of shape” about it that the devs recanted and continued XP support?So, I guess if people are going to get worked up about it, now is the time?

Can you check with which O/S N++ is downloaded?
Depending on the amount of ancient Windows systems and the availability of a stable N++ release, support could be dropped.
For WinXP support ended 11 years ago, extended support ended 6 years ago, so if the used O/S is below 2% dropping WinXP support would be feasible.

Windows XP was/is a great operating system (almost as good as Windows 2000) and I completely understand people who continue to use it. Guess that it is mostly on old computers that refuse to die.
But I don’t understand the contrast between sticking with an ancient os and insisting on latest and greatest text editor version.
With all due respect to the hard work being poured into Notepad++, older versions can edit text (or view logs) just fine.It would be nice if Notepad++ web site could put a link to last supported xp version with auto update disabled.

There’s some wisdom here.
Yea, if you’re going to use an ancient OS that is no longer updated, why get all frazzled about not being able to have its latest version not run?
Thus: Run an old OS…run an old N++.
Maybe I am overestimating the user community reaction to the devs decision. -
