Is there a way to revert back to the old Javascript syntax highlighting without downgrading to 6.8.3? The new version is way too bright.

Agreed. The new JS style is not very good, and also buggy. Regular Expressions are not displayed properly, and also token highlighting doesn’t work consistently.
Please revert back to the old version, or at least allow those who want to do so do it via the Preferences.
