Not Saving

I do not use Notepad++ often, so there could be a simple solution.
I can open a document in Notepad++, edit it, the tab turns red.
I can close Notepad++ and reopen my text document. The changes are still there.
I can click Save and the red tab turns blue.
I can close Notepad++ and reopen my text document. The changes are still there.
If I now go to the same document and open it in Windows Notepad, the changes are NOT there.
I don’t know what this feature is about Notepad++, but if I close the text editor, I want to see a prompt to save changes.
If I select “No”, then I want all changes to go away.

Turn off
Settings > Preferences > Backup > Enable session snapshot and periodic backup
