2nd Time an entire saved page was wiped (and saved as wiped.)

Generally when a program crashes you have only what you last saved.
I’m used to that. But ++ will crash (“Microsoft is looking for a solution…yadda yadda”) and when I open it again the page that I was working on is blank. Even though it was saved with content well before the crash all the code that was saved is now gone.

This is the second time that has happened. Why does this program behave this way? How are other programs configured to prevent a crash from deleting saved material?
