Ok to Install NPP on production servers?

Is it generally considered Ok to install the latest NPP on production servers from a security viewpoint?
Are there any continuous background network communications or checks that can/should be turned off?Thanks, Dave

from npp’s point of view it isn’t critical. It is open source and you can always check what it is doing.
Our main concern was about the plugins which aren’t open source, meaning where only dll is available.Cheers
