Notepad++ v7.1 released
-
Couple issues with v7.1:
- When running the 64bit installer and getting to the selection where to instal NPP the “Next” button is greyed out, as long as the folder is the default folder. When I change the location the “Next” button is activated again. (selected the german language at the start of installation)
- When running the installer with /S to install NPP silently the old installation of v7 is successfully removed. However the startmenu links are still there and didn’t get removed.
- When running the installer with /S to install NPP the program isn’t installed at all. The installation fails silently with no error or anything. (Possibly related to the first bug?). Trying the change the default installation directory during silent installation with /D didn’t work either.
-
When during install I disable Auto-Update feature the updater folder is still created in N++ install path and the gpup.exe is still there.
Is this the expected behavior? This is valid for both x86 and x64 versions.
Thanks.BR

Since v7.0 there’s an annoying bug on computers with German language settings (maybe others, too). After an unspecific time, the German keyboard layout switches to English - but only inside of Notepad++ ! After restarting Notepad++ the bug is gone, but reoccurs after some minutes.
I was able to test this for the 32-bit version on two different computers. Both were running German Windows 7 Pro with different Notepad++ plugins.
Hint: I doesn’t have anything to do with the local keyboard settings. No other application is affected, f.e. normal “Microsoft Notepad” still has German keyboard layout.

When I right click on a file in windows explorer and choose “Edit in Notepad++” than my already open session of Notepad++ crashes. If I drag and drop the file into my session of N++ than it works fine.
-
@narutards I have exakt the same problem…
-
debug info please. x86 ? x64 ?

@donho Can you put some sort of disclaimer on the Notepad++ website that downloading the 64-bit version does not have the plugin manager. There is constant confusion from users that can no longer find it. Hopefully the 64-bit version of the Plugin Manager is available before too long.

I’m not sure if this has been reported before, but tab settings do not save properly. I try to enable 4-space tabs with Python files, and it doesn’t acknowledge the change. I have tried a fresh install, and running as admin, and neither help. Additionally, the list of items is repeated twice (normal shows up as [Default]) and the second set does not appear to do anything and the UI doesn’t respond to selecting those items.
-
Wow ok since you apparently can’t edit or delete posts after 180 seconds have passed, here is an edit:
I forgot how it used to work, so rather than normal replacing [Default] it instead does not show up at the top, and instead shows up in the middle.
Also, I got a lot of random associations that were assigned to completely different things than Notepad++_File on the File Associations area on 7.1, which persisted after my removing them. (I should note that both with older versions and the latest I have to run NPP as admin to change file associations.)I downgraded and can confirm these issues are not present in 6.9.2.
Also, can the background color for the edit box be set? My theme changes the default system background color to the point that I can’t read the text at all.

Hi i try change the tab settings for a specific language, but it’s not working. just for the default settings.
-
Tab settings per language broken due to the entries are doubled by error during the preferences dialog reorganization.
This issue has been fixed in repository, and the fix will be in the next release.
-
Found a critical bug in the installer: You cannot choose to use the “obsolete and monstrous” icon any more!

It’s only in x86 version (Tested with x64 installer, works fine for me), and it’s a normal behaviour - gpup.exe is updater come with Plugin Manager plugin. (GUP.exe is Notepad++ updater)

Uninstaller silent mode issue will be fixed in the next release.

Hi, I have a issue, but it it’s not critial…
The menu function “Rename” is not working. If I use this function, the “Save as” function appers isnteed of Rename! Thanks.
-
So if you follow through with what appears to be a “Save As…”, then what happens?
For me, I type a different filename and press OK. Then my Notepad++ editing tab has the new name and examining the containing folder with Explorer shows that a file with the new name is there and the file with the old name is gone.
Isn’t that a RENAME ?

After update to v7.1 can’t “Save” edited file - simply nothing happens. Only when run as administrator ordinary save works. Uninstalling and going back to any of the previous versions doesn’t help.

Hi Donho,
I need silent uninstall switch for Notepad++ 7.1 application. I have used “C:\Program Files(x86)\Notepad++\Uninstall.exe” /S. In the middlw i am getting custom setting pop up dialod box yes no option. I need silent uninstall without any pop up dialogs. Please suggest.Siva

Strange thing - i open text, which was written on Mac, on Windows, and there are crossed squares instead of cyrillic text. Also, i have message in Skype (on Windows), i copied it and paste to notepad - and here they are, crossed squares. Thin message was written on Mac’s Skype too. UTF-8 setted, changing it doesn’t help. ANSI makes text full of not readable symbols. It happens after update to 7.1, but i don’t remember what version I had before update - quiet old, I think.
