Read Only Files - Cannot Edit?

When trying to open/edit a particular file in Notepad++ I get an on-going error message: “Cannot Open This File; the Document Is A Read Only File”. How do I easily get around this?

Make sure you do not mark the Menu - Edit - Lock Edit
or the file attribute is set R (read only) -
The hosts file is the default attribute set R - and then in the Menu - Edit appears active option “Disable read only mode”
