Any plans to allow change of selected text foreground color?
-
I know this has been discussed before and there are workarounds using plugins such as Nppexec or Python scripts, but I was wondering if there were plans to add the ability to change the selected text foreground color using the Style Configurator. It would be a really nice addition especially for a colorblind person like myself who prefers white text when selecting text with a darker background.
Thanks,

This has been discussed before a few times. For instance, see this thread: https://notepad-plus-plus.org/community/topic/11039/foreground-options-for-selected-text

I mentioned that this has been discussed and there are workarounds. My question is will NPP ever support this natively in the the Style Configurator without needing extra plugins or startup scripts.

Ah, yes, somehow I glossed over that part of your posting…sorry. This kind of thing comes up a lot…where a desired feature is already possible with known solutions, usually using existing scripting plugins, but people want that feature to be native. My long-time observation is that this type of thing very rarely goes native–there is already a known way to do it. Just the way it seems to be…don’t shoot the messenger. :-D

You’re probably right, but I’m not happy with the workarounds for two reasons. First, they require 3rd party plugins. I’m trying to keep the footprint of NPP as small as possible and the plugins just add more bloat. Second, when using NPP across a large number of computers, the workaround has to be performed on every machine. I can’t just tell users to go into settings and change it to whatever they prefer. Unless there’s some underlying technical issue, It seems like an easy change to make since it’s already available in the Style Configurator, it’s just grayed out.
