I can’t handle it any more. It all works fine and I’m going about my normal business when all of a sudden a simple file load will return a ‘file type doesn’t match’ error because, for no apparent reason whatsoever, it expects a file type of whatever was opened before, or whatever the cause for it is. So I need to go back in, select the file type I want (or *.all, which is what it should be ALL the time if ALL are being shown) then select again.

You expect basic things to work normally and as expected and since I’m so into what I’m doing while coding being thrown an abstract error like this completely throws me (and actually drives me into a rage because of the complete, unnecessary stupidity of it). What gives and why hasn’t such a thing been flagged up - I’ve not encountered it in any other Windows software.

Which version of N++\windows are you using (see https://notepad-plus-plus.org/community/topic/15739/faq-desk-request-for-help-without-sufficient-information-to-help-you ) and what is the preference setting under Default Directory to “Use new style dialog(without file extension & Unix style path capacity)” see https://notepad-plus-plus.org/community/topic/15743/faq-desk-file-extension-issue-file-open-save-dialogs

Thanks for that. I’ve ticked the box as suggested in the second link and will wait to see if the issue gets resolved. Never bothered to customise N++ but I see there is a lot that can be done to suit it to one’s preferences.
