Recent update has removed the files I had open.

Am I right in assuming you had files open before, then upgraded to a newer version of Notepad++, then when you re-launches, your session was no longer active, and you are trying to re-open those files?

Near the end of the File menu, there is usually a section that includes the names of recent files; there are also entries such as “Restore Recent Closed File” and “Open All Recent Files”. One of these might help. Settings > Preferences > Recent Files History will affect how those are displayed. But I don’t know, especially if you updated to v7.6, whether NPP will properly track sessions and Recent Files from the old revision to the new.

I hope you’re talking about named and saved files, not the unnamed files “new #”. If you mean an unsaved file, then it might be in %AppData%\Notepad++\backup (if you’re on a Notepad++ version before 7.6), or it might be somewhere else (on v7.6: somewhere like %LocalAppData%\Notepad++\backup, if I’m remembering the current state of the new hierarchy correctly; sorry for the uncertainty, I’m waiting until the new plugins locations have stabilized before I upgrade beyond my v7.5.8, so I am not an expert on all the settings locations on the newest. If you upgraded from pre-7.6 to 7.6, you might have to check in the old location rather than the new, because 7.6 is looking in new location, but 7.5.x had stored it in the old.)

We are probably NOT talking about that, because people haven’t yet learned (and won’t) that you shouldn’t fly that way…

Yes, but I don’t believe these handle unnamed “new #” files…

+1 (or more). For myself, I’ll probably give it 3-6 months beyond the point where we don’t see half-a-dozen-plus new postings here concerning the new state of plugins (which are an instant click-thru-to-next-posting for me, BTW). :-)
