Requesting a pull of the most recent Scintilla API
-
I just wanted to say that it really saddens me that the most recent version of the Scintilla API
is not integrated into the most recent version of Notepad++.I think the Scintilla API used in N++ is like over 4 years old.
What makes Notepad++ the best text editor for me, is its plugins and its interaction with the API
and being able to set up Notepad++ the way you want it.So, please @donho …
Bring in the most recent API implementation into Notepad++…

@SalviaSage, while avoiding drifting from your core framework is generally a legitimate request it would make a stronger case if you could list bug fixes or new features that Notepad++ and its users could enjoy.

The current scintilla in Notepad++ is v3.5.6, released 26 May 2015. The current Scintilla release is v4.1.4. That means 27 releases.
The changelog on https://www.scintilla.org/ScintillaHistory.html contains around 500 lines of changes that were made since that version, including over 80 related to various lexers, including (but not limited to) C++, HTML, Python, Ruby, Lua, PowerShell, Perl, SQL, YAML and Markdown. Just the fixes and improvements to those lexers are worth the effort.

I don’t need to hear about any “features” after that summary statement. If you don’t update your “core” often, what are you?

And…the longer you wait before updating the “core”, the more difficult and daunting that task becomes. If Scintilla is ever updated, I don’t see it making a one-step jump to a relatively current version.
