Update Installation Path

  • Have to say: I love NP++

    Hate to say: NP++ updates dont suggest the update installation in NP++ installation directory.

    I never install software in C:…\Program Files if I can avoid that.
    However NP++ updates always propose to be installed there, even if an older version resides on another drive or in a user defined directory. It’s so easy to press ENTER too fast, when updating…

    Please consider reading NP++'s installation location and propose to put the updates there!

    Thanks
    Klaus

  • At the same time it does not remember “appdata” checkbox state too… so even if you remembered where you installed it I still wish you good luck with remembering if you wanted it to save things in appdata or not…

  • Better: Use the “portable” version of Notepad++.

  • Agreed. It gets a bit annoying over time when you’ve choosen a non-standard installation path.

    A simple reg read at the beginning of the installation process would do the job. E.g.:
    HKLM\Software\Notepad++
    HKLM\Software\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App Path\notepad++.exe

    @Jerry-B , thank you for a practical suggestion; it’s good to see someone who offers potential fixes. This forum isn’t the right place for bug tracking, so I have appended your advice (linking to your post and quoting and citing you as the author) in the official issue #7946.
