      Whenever I ctrl+shift+s it starts an infinite loop. I click cancel and it shows again, I click save and it comes back up. I have to end task to escape the loop.

        @Seamus-O-Dunn ,

        Please see the FAQ https://community.notepad-plus-plus.org/topic/15739/faq-desk-request-for-help-without-sufficient-information-to-help-you, and then come back here and provide more information.

        Thank you.

          I think what Peter means is perhaps a screencast/video of what you’re experiencing, in action. Which is probably discussed in the link he used, but I just wanted to bring it to the forefront.

            @Seamus-O-Dunn ,

            What I was driving at was that we needed version information (? menu, Debug Info, copy debug info into clipboard, and paste here), as well a sequence that can try to replicate that problem.

            I don’t recall anyone ever mentioning that particular infinite loop before, so all I could say for now is “it doesn’t happen to me”, with v7.8.9-64bit.

            Because it’s not been mentioned before, there is possibly some unique condition that you’re experiencing which finds a rare bug or problem, and we’ll need your help to find it.

            Maybe it has to do with Admin mode, or reading files from network shares (\\machinename\path\to\file.txt), or maybe it has to do with a plugin (which the Debug Info will list), or maybe it’s file size, or maybe something else. Much of this is mentioned in the FAQ I linked. As much debug as you can do – finding out when it occurs and when it doesn’t – will help us to help you.

                I get a similar loop; I try to save an edit, and it offers to make a new file, and then after the save it offers to make another - etc. No way out but taskmanager and a shutdown of the app.
                Happens once a month or so.

                  @Charles-Martel ,

                  As Alan and I tried to make clear two years ago, with so few details given, there is no way that anyone could even begin to help you. The same suggestions for additional information, including the FAQ that was linked, that we asked of the original poster back then are still the same pieces of information that would be needed from you.

                  My first guess, based on your mention of around once-a-month frequency, is that you are running into a brief period when a network drive is unwritable or something similar, but since you haven’t given any details, that is just a random guess at this point.

                    This happened to me as well. It’s not an infinite loop, though. While Ctrl+Shift+A is bound to “Save As” in many applications, it’s bound to “Save All” in Notepad++, which causes this surprising behaviour that can seem like an infinite loop, if you have very many files open. To solve it, I simply rebound Ctrl+Shift+A to “Save As”.
