      Hi,

For my first post here, I’d like to ask about the only thing that is bugging me with Notepad++, for many years now, that is the Document Switcher.

I’m talking about the list of current opened files that has two columns named Name and Ext., the same list that is referenced in the Preferences > General as Document List Panel.

My grief is that it is not sorted. I tend to think (maybe wrongly) that the alphabetical order is something natural. At least, it has become natural to me and lists that are not sorted or that cannot be sorted, as is the case with the document switcher tend to hinder my productivity.

My question seems simple: is there a setting that can be configured to have that order in the document switcher?

      Many thanks.

First, work on your desire to have things sorted. :-)
Sure, things that are related, it may be great to have them sorted.
Most of my tabs open in Notepad++ are unrelated, and sorting them makes no sense (to me). I use them “as they are”.

Second, can’t you sort them by clicking on the Name text at the top of the list?

I’m not sure what you mean by the document switcher. However, if you go to the Window / Windows menu item it pulls up a list of the open files. The list has four columns, Name, Path, Type, and Size. You can click on a column header to sort the list by that column, Click the header again to reverse the sort. Then click the [Sort Tabs] button and it’ll shuffle the tabs around based on the sort order you chose.

I’m using Notepad++ v7.8.9 (32-bit) but suspect this feature is available in older versions of npp too.
