        rebooted

        If I’m remembering correctly, a reboot only solves it for a short time (for other affected users).

          Actually, in https://community.notepad-plus-plus.org/post/64735, @Dan-Schreck mentioned he updated his nVidia drivers and rebooted, and he hasn’t been back in the intervening 13 days to complain that it came back.

          So a reboot alone doesn’t look like it is permanent, but reboot+drivers might be enough.

          Good luck, @DomWesker . Please come back and let us know if the problem comes back.

            I’m having the same issue, although I was on an older version of notepad++ when the problem started. I decided to try updating to 7.9.5 but it didn’t help. I am using a Radeon video card, so I doubt the issue is related to nvidia drivers specifically, I’m thinking more of a windows update. I’m only a fully patched Win10.

            Another thing that leads me to believe it is a windows update problem is that I’ve been having odd window rendering issues in other apps too. Microsoft SQL Server Manager Studio is not displaying panels properly, if I try to use the edit table function it displays the panel outside the application window, anchored to the top left corner of my screen, then it will start throwing dialogs about ‘mscorlib.dll’ errors. Then some other apps will not restore correctly after being minimized (slack). I wasn’t connecting the dots between these symptoms until I decided to check the forum here, so I will be more diligent about collecting information and trying to piece things together. I’ll update if I figure anything out.

              Just tried Run as Administrator, seems to fix the rendering issue in the OP’s screenshot, but I’m still having problems loading other overlay panels in np++, specifically the ‘F7’ Search Results Window.

              Here is my debug info:

              Notepad++ v7.9.5 (64-bit)
              Build time : Mar 21 2021 - 02:13:17
              Path : C:\Program Files\Notepad++\notepad++.exe
              Admin mode : ON
              Local Conf mode : OFF
              OS Name : Windows 10 Pro (64-bit)
              OS Version : 2009
              OS Build : 19042.928
              Current ANSI codepage : 1252
              Plugins : mimeTools.dll NppConverter.dll NppExport.dll

              OS Build is the same as the OP

                Uninstalling the following Windows Update resolved the issue for me!

                2021-04 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 (KB5001330) OS Build 19042.928 - https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/topic/april-13-2021-kb5001330-os-builds-19041-928-and-19042-928-cead30cd-f284-4115-a42f-d67fec538490

                I am now running on the following and can no longer reproduce the rendering issues in npp or any of the other affected apps (Microsoft SSMS, Slack)

                My working configuration is reporting as follows:

                OS Name : Windows 10 Pro (64-bit)
                OS Version : 2009
                OS Build : 19042.870

                  I had this issue just now. I found that my problem was a tricky hidden window.

                  Slack recently introduced a feature called “Huddle”. In a Huddle you can share your screen, or a Window. It turns out, if I am in a Huddle and sharing a window, and then exit the Huddle without stopping the sharing, an invisible window remains behind that interferes with various programs, including Notepad++.

                  What makes this confusing is that when sharing your screen or window with a Huddle your screen or application has a green border around it to signify sharing. This is gone when the Huddle ends in the manner above. However, if I tried to click on Slack from the system tray the border returned as though it was still sharing, and Slack went unresponsive. Eventually, the bordered area went unresponsive and had an X to click on in the upper right, Windows asked me if I wanted to end the task, and I did. Problem solved, Notepad++ works fine now. I didn’t have to futz with drivers or reboots or anything.

                  This is one potential issue and solution, I’m sure there are others.

                    I had the same problem with Slack and the same solution as @niftyruin.

                    To expand a little further: Running Notepad++ as Administrator temporarily fixed the problem. (I had found this solution elsewhere). Stopping the screen share from Slack did NOT fix the issue. However, when I exited Slack entirely (CTRL+Q) and then exited Notepad++, running it again it was fixed.

                      i exited slack completely and notepad++ is still messed up. :(

                        Suggest ALSO restart Windows (reboot) as whatever Slack messed up may still exist (or some artefact of it) even though Slack is supposedly shutdown. Maybe even check the running processes to see if any remainder of Slack (or whatever screen sharing app was used) may still be in memory before the reboot tried.

                          @domwesker I know it’s a year later, but if I found this in a google search so can someone else. I just want to confirm the later replies here. This problem seem to stem from using Slack. In my case I had the go into task manager and stop ALL(sort by name since they tend to play hide and seek) Slack processes. Then simply close NP++ and re-open.
