Npp got stuck after rearranging dialogs
-
Today I discovered something strange that seems to be difficult to reproduce.
When rearranging docked dialogs, it happened that Npp got stuck.
I’ve been trying to figure out when this happens, but so far I haven’t found any step by step instructions to reproduce it.
In my testing, I used the FunctionList, ConversionPanel, and FolderAsWorkspace dialogs and dragged them one at a time to another area. In ~50 attempts, I got “lucky” once again and Npp hung. Has anyone else had this happen?
I tested this with 8.4.6 and only with standard plugins. -

I’ve never seen that… but I don’t often move my panels around after I’ve put them where I like them.
I just ran the experiment on a portable v8.4.6: I made those three panels visible docked on three separate edges, then started randomly moving them around for a few minutes. Then I went methodical, and started circling those around from edge to edge, each about 15 tiumes for 40-15 total moves in the second group. Then I docked them all to the same edge, and moved the three-dock system around 50 moves. I never had it freeze.
But replicating such odd behavior can often be very difficult, so my inability to replicate doesn’t mean there isn’t a bug or inherent problem.

@PeterJones
I don’t, normally, do this myself as well but I think I found a way to reproduce it more or less easily.
Preparation:
open- function list and
- folder as workspace(faw) dialogs
- ctrl+f
- click find tab
- press find all in all opened documents button
Now click on a dialog title bar and throw, that is move the mouse quickly and release the mouse button, the dialog to another dialog as seen in the animation.
In the gif you can see that I tried to throw the faw dialog onto the search results dialog, which failed, instead it opened
as a floating dialog box. I double clicked on the header so that the dialog is put back in its original position.EDIT: used a new portable 8.4.6 version, no additional plugins.
