Odd behavior of the Compare Plugin
-
This really isn’t a bug or anything like that. What is happening is that suppose you have 5 tabs open (I usually have way more than that). And you click on the fourth tab from the left to make it active. If you then click on the Compare plugin icon at the top, you get a comparison of the third tab from the left compared to the fourth tab from the left. Great. Then if you click on the Clear Active Compare icon at the top, it shuts down Compare, and then shifts my tabs to the left such that what used to be the third tab is now the first tab. So I then have to repeatedly click on the left arrow that’s on the far right at the top to get back to my first and second tabs that were moved aside. Is there anyway to stop this behavior? I like my tabs where they are, but if this can’t be adjusted, then so be it.
Thanks,

Hi,
It appears that your ComparePlugin is rather old.
I would suggest you to update Notepad++ to the latest version (8.4.7 to date) and use the ComparePlugin successor - ComparePlus which has many fixes and advanced new features.
Its latest release is v1.1.0 but you’ll have to install it manually because it is not yet in Notepad++‘s PluginsAdmin list.
Just get the archive for you system and extract it in your Notepad++ plugins’ folder. Write back if you need further assistance with that.

@pnedev ,
Thanks !!! Wow, what a difference. I had no idea there was a ComparePlus. It works great. I teach a coding class, and it makes grading and correcting students assignments a whole lot easier. Notepad ++ is an awesome product.
Thanks again,
Mark
