      Hi,
I cannot open a file (TXT) when i for example download a file then right click and choose the NPP as default program it will not open.
If I open location in file explorer it wont work either.
only thing that works is to open NPP and use open file.
NPP is set as default app for TXT files.
How do I solve this issue?

        @Trubardix ,

Sounds like something is corrupted in your file association.

If you right click, is there an Edit with Notepad++ entry available to try, instead of using Open With? Does that entry work for you? If that doesn’t exist, does one show up if you use Alt+F10 instead of Right Click, or if you pick Show More Options from the right-click menu?

When you say that choosing Notepad++ as the default program (I assuming using Right Click > Open With) doesn’t work, what does happen? What if you use Open With without choosing it as the default application? In the Open With, was Notepad++ an option already in that list, or did you Choose another app?

Also, please share your ?-menu’s Debug Info, as that will tell us more about your installation of NPP, your version of Windows, and other useful information.

It may eventually turn out that to debug and solve your problem, we might have to ask you to look in your system registry using regedit; is that something you are comfortable doing?

@Trubardix do you happen to have NP++ running as Administrator? When I do, my NP++ window doesn’t come back into focus when I open a new file from File Explorer, but the file is there when I bring up the NP++ window manually.

@PeterJones, thanks for input, the most difficult task is to explain the issues to someone else!

Thanks a lot, just needed an eyeopener! Hope it will help someone else with issues!

            Let´s try again.

            1. I click on download symbol in Edge, a list drop down
            2. I click on my file and it opens in file explorer
            3. If I right click and choose “show more options” I get the “Edit with Notepad ++” selection and if I use it the file opens.
Success, I can use this option!

            Second scenario

            1. I click on download symbol in Edge, a list drop down
            2. I right click on my file and choose “open file” then it open in File explorer
            3. I choose “open with” new window opens and I try to use NP++ it don´t work.

“When you say that choosing Notepad++ as the default program”
I have chosen NP++ as default app in windows apps settings for .txt files.
