Notepad ++ - System error on startup - api-ms-win-crt-runtime-l1-1-0.dll is missing

Every time I try to open Notepad ++ - I get a System error - The program can’t start because api-ms-win-crt-runtime-l1-1-0.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem.

I’ve uninstalled and reinstalled twice, and this error isn’t going away.

Any ideas?

I had the same issue on a fresh install on a new windows 8.1 laptop.

My error was caused by the plugin NppFTP (default plugin I think), removed that because I never use it and n++ now runs as normal.

I’d tried re-installing notepad++ from scratch, installed the VS C++ Redistributable Packages, and various other hacks, but the problem persisted.

Went to plugin manager, removed the NppFTP plugin (which I likewise don’t use), restarted, and voila! All good.

Hello,

I just had the problem, and deleting NppFTP.dll works good.
The problem occurs just after I installed winblows office 2016 (just installed word). It installed C++ 2008 Redistributable 9.0.30729.6161 both x86 and x64

If you are seeing this when running other programs here is what I encountered:

I removed NppFTP in Notepad ++ and that solved the issue with Notepad ++, however I still had the message pop-up with various other programs. I found in my case that the underlying issue was from Tortoise SVN V 1.9. Updating to the most recent version of Tortoise SVN 1.9.2 solved the issue.

I was able to reinstall NppFTP in Notepad ++ with no issues so far.

I mention this because the underlying issue that others are experiencing may be due to some other software conflict, not Notepad ++
