Text selection color is gone since a few updates

), my selected text is no longer visible, well it’s visible (and selected) but the selection color is transparant.I can’t remember making any changes to the theme/template since a while, it might also have something todo with a Windows update but I’m not sure.
Any one else having this ‘issue’ or did I miss a setting somewhere…

@Leon-Meijer I’ve noticed that the plugin “ExtSettings” is unable to save settings after the last 1 or 2 updates and there are few options that are connected to this issue… disabling it should resolve the problem for you ;)
(the transparency of the selected text background color is set to 100% in the initial settings of the plugin, and since it can’t be saved, the result is this problem)

Correction - the plugin works fine only the settings file got probably corrupted by the NPP update… delete just the file “ExtSettings.ini” in “%appdata%\Notepad++\plugins\Config” … that should be enough to fix it ;)

sorry for necroposting, but I just want to tell it’s 4 years later and the problem persist. Thanks for automatic similar topic propositions, when adding new topic!
I got the same problem in 2026 with n++ 8.9.7, which I’ll quickly describe, to make it easier to find.
Selection is totally gone. When I switch theme, selection gets back, but when selecting you can only see selection solid block, no text “underneath”. It happened at some point, possibly after update.
I deleted ExtSettings.ini (which was 0 byte) and… It works again. Maybe it’s n++ fault, but… For other plugins settings aren’t gone and when files are 0b they don’t cause glitchy behaviour. I’d bet it’s rather a problem with this particular plugin.
The question is what now? This is something I wouldn’t guess myself and I think it’s worth to do sth. ExtSettings is not small fish, so removing it is not something I’d do. As far as I see, the plugin is very quirky and apparently causes problems now and then.
