Keyboard shortcuts not working in notepad++?

This is probably a really dumb question but I’ve just recently decided to try java coding.
For some reason the keyboard shortcuts for various symbols don’t work.
I can do a right syntax just fine, but it doesn’t work for the left one.
What am I doing wrong?
