help with notepad++

I always use notepad for my html and css coding , but I decided to upgrade to notepad++ ; however when I type in my codes and try to run the notepad++ I only see a blanck IE page and when I take the same code sources and use on the regular notepad it works just fine. I just upgrade my IE but still not able to run the source code from notepad++. Can anyone help please?

how do you do this exactly?
If I create, let’s say c:\my.html file with content<html> my message to display </html>and open firefox, add file://c:\my.html I do see the message.
