Lost text from saved file after win crash
-
Hi, I had a saved file I was using only notepad++ on that and I had opened that file when my windows crashed. I restarted my laptop and wanted to open the file again using notepad. Then the message box with text “failed to load config.xml” (or similiar) appeared, I clicked ok, the file opened in notepad, but all I can see is: “NULNULNUL” with black background, I’ve tried to convert the text but not succeed. The backup folder in %appdata% is empty. Is there any other way where I can retreive my lost text? thanks for any advice.

Hello @Mário-Orlický
maybe you wanna give badger2000 tip a chance?
And if the file was a backup, what is with the real version of that file?@badger200 said:
You could try finding your documents in Windows Explorer, then right click on them and see if the “Previous Verisons” tab lets you restore to a prior copy. Do you perform backups on your computer? If not you should! Hard drives die frequently and sometimes you get no warning .

“badger2000” ? What do you mean by that? And the broken file was not backup, I had no backup, just wondering if the content can be revived somehow if the warning message “failed to load config.xml” has been displayed.

he is refering to the windows backup functionality but if you didn’t setup one you won’t be able to restore an older version.

If file content has been already replaced, I don’t see any chance.
