Windows 10 Anniversary Update Breaks Notepad++

The Windows 10 Anniversary Update seems to be a huge mess.
Among other things, it causes Notepad++ to encounter an error and crash, as VS2015 indicates:
Unhandled exception at 0x7670274D (combase.dll) in notepad++.exe: 0xC0000602: A fail fast exception occurred. Exception handlers will not be invoked and the process will be terminated immediately.The odd thing is, I open Notepad++ up again and it acts like nothing really happened, indicating to me that it’s fully able to recover fine from the error.
It’s more annoying than serious, but it only happened after the recent update.
