Black rectangles with 2-3 characters inside

I have loaded an OTRACLE database file into Notepad++ in order to see how this file is build (btw dont know if this is possible). But I see a lot of Black rectangles with 2-3 characters inside, like…
SI NUL NUL SOH NUL STX etc.
How to interpret these?
