Ok - it is Friday, but why notepad++ acting weird?

Today Windows 10 decided to take about a zillion hours to update itself. As a consequence, I can’t open files :-(

What happens is:

• Open dialog box
• Enter ftp: stuff, say ftp://example.com
• <PING> Windows opens up a new file explorer box
• <PFFT> Notepad++ says no items found

Upgrading to version 7 from 6.9.2 doesn’t help

Any ideas??
