.txt not added to text files

How can I force Notepad++ to add .txt to text files automatically? Right now when I save text files it does not put any extension to the file name. I have to add it after I have saved the file.

And I also have it. As another, maybe related matter; I am unable to open .txt files with Notepad++.
This is beginning to be a large pain.

I’m sure you’ve found the answer to this problem already. But for the others who have this problem too these days, the solution is to simply revert back to Notepad++ 6.8.3 or earlier.

Maybe the setting
Settings->Preferences->Default Directory->Use new style save dialog… was activated?Cheers
