When I run Notepad++ without administrative privilege, Settings -> Preferences -> File Association does not allow me to add or delete associations, even for my user.

If I do run Notepad++ with administrative privilege, it can change associations, as least as far as Windows is concerned (when I double-click on a file with an associated extension, Notepad++ starts). But when I again run Notepad++ without administrative privilege, I see the same set of associations (mostly variants of html) as before. That is, the associations shown inside Notepad++ are different when run with administrative privilege and when run without and only the former a “real”.

I don’t know if this is a change from Notepad++ 7.4 to 7.5 or from Windows 7 to Windows 10, as I got both at the same time.

Without special privledge, Windows Explorer can change the program for an extension by shift-right-clicking and using the “Open with…” option.

If Windows 10 no longer allows Notepad++ to change associations (though Explorer can), would you consider changing Notepad++ to show a warning instead of misleading extensions in Settings?
Or, perhaps change Notepad++ to fetch whatever extensions it really is associated with.

Otherwise, is there a bug in Notepad++?
